Parents

Signing in
We require all visitors and parents to sign-in at the front office before proceeding into the building. There is a sign-in sheet located in the front office. After signing in be sure to place the Bobcat Visitor Badge on your clothing. If you don't have a badge, you will be asked to return to the front office and get one.

Dropping things off
If your child has forgotten something at home that he/she needs for school, please bring it to the front office and we will get the item to your child.

Early Pickup
Come to the front office and we will be more than happy to call your child to the office for early dismissal. All children must be checked out, if leaving before the closing bell rings.

Lost and found
Misplaced items can usually be found in the lost and found located in the hallway on the way to the cafeteria. Valuable items are in the display cases at the entrance of the school.

Communications
Please bookmark this page on your computer. We strive to keep it current so it serves as a primary communication tool for parents. We also email news to you as we receive it. Please make sure that your contact information is current.

Email
The standard format for district email is: firstname.lastname@eagleschools.net. The address uses our "legal names" not nick names. For example Sandy Smith's email address is sandra.smith@eagleschools.net. If you are having trouble contacting a staff member, then the front office is happy to provide you the correct email address.

Monday folders
Monday Folders are sent home on a weekly basis with important information: homework assignments, classroom newsletters, after school program information, and lunch menus. Some of this information needs to stay home, other things may need to be completed and returned to school.

Changes in after school plans
We have a system in place called Bus Notes. Bus Notes are delivered to the teachers by 2:30PM each day. If you need to get a message to your child, call 328-8930 and the front office will deliver the message. We will need to know your child's name, his/her teacher and the message. All messages should be phoned in by 1:30PM. If you call after 1:30PM, we cannot guarantee that the message will get to your child.
Important: If you want your child to get off at a different bus stop than usual, we need to have this request in writing. Please fax or email a letter to the front office stating at what stop and with whom your child will be getting off.
Due to limited space on the buses, if your child doesn't have a bus contract and/or doesn't ride the bus, he or she will NOT be able to ride a bus home with a friend that does ride the bus. If regular bus riders decide to walk, we also need a written note, email or fax stating the date and parent permission and signature for the child to walk home.

Absences and tardies
To report an absence call 970-328-4064 or email kristina.turner@eagleschools.net by 8:30 AM.

If your child is late, have your child CHECK IN at the front office. He/she will be given a tardy slip to give to his/her teacher. If your child doesn't stop at the office and sign in, he/she will have an unexcused absence for the day and you will receive a phone call from us.

Parents /guardians should fill out the Notification of Absence form if a student will miss more than one full day of school. Only absences that are medical or illness in nature will be excused. Doctor's notes are required. Please refer to our district's attendance policies available at www.eagleschools.net

Absence policy
Regular school attendance is a key factor in student achievement. Any absence represents an educational loss to the student. We know, however, that some absences are unavoidable. Therefore, this policy is designed to minimize student absenteeism and provide students with the opportunity to make up schoolwork missed due to parent-directed absences. The district strongly encourages scheduling family vacations outside of the school year, and strongly discourages withdrawing students from school before the end of the year. Any student who has twenty or more unexcused or pre-excused absences in a year can be considered for retention at grade level.

The parent/guardian must submit notification of absence a minimum of five school days in advance. Only medical/dental appointments and illness will be excused. Families will be required to bring in a note from the doctor for absences longer than three days.
The student will be responsible for obtaining and completing all missed assignments.

It should be understood that there are things that happen in a classroom that are experiential and cannot be made up. In striving for academic excellence, please help us maintain an attendance rate of 95% or higher.

Walking, biking, scootering
If you live less than a mile from school, consider having your child walk, bike or ride their scooter to school. Such practices promote fitness and reduce traffic making students healthier and safer.

Cars and carpooling
DROP OFF

No Cell Phone Area- Driving and talking on your cell phone is not permitted while in the drop off and pick up lanes.
South Bound Traffic on Eagle Ranch Road, if you are driving south on Eagle Ranch road to access the entrance for Brush Creek Elementary, as you turn right into Brush Creek, please stay in the right lane.
North Bound Traffic on Eagle Ranch Road‚ if you are driving North on Eagle Ranch Road to access the entrance to Brush Creek Elementary, please turn into the left lane of the driveway.
We will have dual lanes for drop off. Proceed in your designated lane until you reach the crosswalk coming from the parking area. An adult volunteer will be there to open doors and get children out of the cars and to the curb. Please don't let your children out of the car until an adult volunteer is present to escort your child.
There will be a "traffic director" in front of the cross walk waiting point. Please wait until instructed to go.
DO NOT DROP OFF YOUR CHILDREN IN THE PARKING AREA.
Adults - Please do not exit your vehicle if you are in the drop off zone.

PICK-UP

Speaking with your child's teacher
The instructional day begins at 7:55AM and ends at 2:50PM. We respectfully ask that you do not attempt to talk to the teacher while he/she is present with children. The teacher's first responsibility is foremost to the class. Taking time to speak to parents who have not scheduled an appointment is time and attention taken away from students. Teachers are happy to set up conferences, answer emails and voice-mails at a time when each can give you the time and attention you need. Parents are welcome in the classroom when they have prearranged volunteer opportunities with the teacher. During conference, please do not enter the room uninvited as teachers may be discussing a student or student's progress, which are confidential.

PTA

Traffic Pattern
We continue to work with Eagle PD to find the best and safest routes and patterns for our cars and families. On Friday, Officer Harper came to our campus to observe and advised the best solution for arrival and dismissal procedures. He does not think it is safe for someone to stand in the road and dismiss one lane at a time. There are 2 lanes of traffic and he thinks that they both need to be dismissed at the same time. If you are in the left lane (closest to the grass median), you will stay in that lane and turn left on to Eagle Ranch Rd (leaving Eagle Ranch). If you are in the right lane to drop off your students, you will turn right on to Eagle Ranch Rd (going back into Eagle Ranch). Cars should not be crossing over after the crosswalk, for example, to turn left if you drop your student off in the right lane. We have ordered signs to be posted when you turn in to the parking lot to remind everyone of the lanes / turning rules.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Eagle PD will continue to monitor and advise if they feel changes need to be made.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Greetings Brush Creek students, parents, and families,

The 2015-2016 school year is upon us and we are eagerly awaiting the return of students and parents to our building. It is too quiet here right now! Here's news to note...

Teachers are busy preparing for the year and getting set for instructional testing days next week. These two days are a great opportunity for teachers to meet their students and to assess a basic inventory of your child's strengths and needs. You should have received an email from our registrar, Ms. Turner, with sign up details.

Our community is growing and enrollment numbers have increased this year at Brush Creek. We are grateful for the opportunities to serve even more students and families. Please join me in welcoming several new staff members at BCES this year! After accepting this position, we moved to Eagle Ranch this summer from Austin, Texas. My family is so happy to be here enjoying the beautiful surroundings and cooler weather. My two older children will also be attending BCES and can't wait for school to begin. In our primary grade levels, we continue to have the talented Ms. Theelke, Ms. Jeffers, and Ms. Lucas teaching Kinder. Ms. Emmer and Ms. Olson added another superstar teacher to the team, Ms. Brock. In 2nd grade, we have the wonderful Ms. Smith, Ms. Schmidt, and Ms. Waterhouse. We are also excited to add two educators to our 3rd grade team. Ms. Naughton and another teacher very soon to be named are joining Ms. Fysh to create a terrific team! 4th grade is rocking with Ms. Musser, Ms. McGrath, Ms. Turnipseed, and our master teachers, Ms. Turilli and Ms. Blomquist, who are sharing a homeroom. 5th grade continues to shine with the dynamic duo, Ms. Metz and Ms. Morrison. Please also welcome our school psychologist, Ms. Costa, speech pathologist, Ms. Foster, and Media Center and Classroom TA, Ms. Mitchell!

Next Wednesday afternoon, August 19th, is our annual Back to School / Meet the Teacher event. Doors will open at 4:00 p.m. and class lists will be posted in the lobby. Head out back to the playground area to enjoy an ice cream social and get the "scoop" on the upcoming year. From 4:30-5:30 p.m. teachers will be in their rooms to greet students and parents. You can drop off supplies and meet fellow classmates. We can't wait to see you all.

Thursday, August 20, is the first day of school! Teachers will be greeting their classes outside. Look for your teacher holding a sign to designate where to gather. Grade levels will be clustered together. Blow kisses and wave goodbye to your students as they go inside with their class to begin their day! Kinder parents...please join me at our PTA sponsored "Coffee and Kleenex" in the library from 8:00 - 8:30 a.m. We can help each other through our tears...of joy or sadness!

On Friday, I will be hosting a similar event for all parents. Please stop by the library for a cup of coffee and a snack and introduce yourself. I look forward to meeting you there! "Principal's Coffee", August 21 from 8:00-8:30 a.m. We will be having similar meetings throughout the year.

The Brush Creek staff is very excited about this school year...we think it's going to be a very special and rewarding year for our Bobcat community.

Arrival and Dismissal
Car Drop Off Protocol:
1. No Phone Area- Driving and talking on your cell phone is not permitted while in the drop off and pick up lanes!
2. As you turn right or left into the Brush Creek visitor parking lot, pull into one of the dual lanes.
3. Please stay in your designated lane until you reach the crosswalk and do not exit your vehicle!
4. Students dropped off from the left lane should walk on the grass median to the crosswalk and wait for the 'traffic director' to let them cross safely. Children should not go in between cars!
5. Fifth grade and adult volunteers will be available to open doors and assist students. Fifth grade volunteers will help K and 1st grade students to enter BCES and drop them off in the designated area.
6. There will be a 'traffic director' in front of the cross walk waiting point. Please wait until you are instructed to cross.
7. Do not drop off your student in the parking areas or in the bus lanes circling the staff parking lot.
Car Pick Up Protocol:
1. No Phone Area- Driving and talking on your cell phone is not permitted while in the drop off and pick up lanes!
2. STAY with your vehicle‚ DO NOT LEAVE YOUR VEHICLE UNATTENDED.
3. We will use the dual lanes for pick up. Please remind your student to look for your vehicle. Students may get into the vehicle at any point along the sidewalk or grass median.
4. There will be a 'traffic director' in front of the cross walk waiting point. Please wait until you are instructed to proceed.

Bus Transportation
For information on your child's bus pick up and drop off times and locations please go to Under the "Departments" tab click on "Transportation" and you can find the bus routes listed there. Each child needs a bus contract in order to ride the bus. These contracts are available online at the Eagle County Schools website. Keep in mind, ONLY children with bus contracts can ride the bus. This is important to remember when making afternoon play-dates with other children that may be bus riders.

Volunteers

Volunteers, please remember that if you would like to volunteer and have not completed the online application and finger printing procedures, you need to do so in order to volunteer at school or attend any field trips.

ALL persons volunteering in Eagle County Schools educational facilities must complete the online application (See Below).

Volunteer Guidelines

1. Volunteers need to complete an online application. If they applied last year, they do not need to apply again. This only needs to be done one time.
2. Once the immediate background check is completed, this person has been approved to volunteer at that school.
3. An email will be sent to the volunteer regarding information about getting fingerprints done.
4. If the immediate background check reveals unacceptable information, Human Resources will contact the applicant regarding these matters.
5. If someone cannot or will not get their fingerprints done, they may not volunteer.
6. If someone is a school district employee, they do not need to go through the volunteer process.
