P-TECH

P-TECH stands for Pathways in Technology Early College High School and prepares students for high-skilled jobs in growing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. Eagle County School District partnered with Colorado Mountain College and local organizations to create an Environmental Solutions Pathway for students. Students are able to graduate high school, earn an associate's degree (Associate of Science OR Associate of Arts in Environmental Studies), and gain valuable, in-demand skills and work-based experience with a local partner.

P-TECH is hosted at Battle Mountain High School and Eagle Valley High School. As part of the pathway, students enroll in an early-start or "zero hour" elective P-TECH Prep class that meets once a week.

We favor adding mostly rising 9th graders as new P-TECH students, but rising 10th and rising 11th graders are also eligible to apply. We also emphasize enrolling students who are sometimes overlooked and often underrepresented, such as students from socioeconomically and racially diverse backgrounds, those who would be the first in their families to go to college, English Language Learners, and students with disabilities (22-35.3-103 2c).

WHy P-TECH?

There are a number of reasons students choose to participate in our P-TECH opportunity. These include the desire to:

  • Meet one of the greatest global and local challenges of our time.
  • Save money on higher education costs while earning an associate's degree as a high school student.
  • Get a head start in an Environmental Solutions career (our chosen high-growth STEM field).
  • Earn real-world experience and valuable skills in a workplace while staying close to home.

Our Partners

Eagle County School District and Colorado Mountain College are excited to expand a strong partnership through the P-TECH offering in a pathway that is both a program strength and an investment in the holistic development of our local students, economy, and environment. Nine local employers are offering valuable work-based learning experiences and professional connections to students as part of the pathway experience. The Eagle County School District CareerX team acts as the conduit to better meet the needs of the students and organizations to foster mutually beneficial relationships and outcomes.
