Academic Planning & Career Readiness

With a support network of adults fulfilling different roles, high school students take the initiative in reviewing and updating their post-secondary goal and taking steps in alignment with their four-year plan. These steps at each grade of high school continue to develop their self-awareness, knowledge, and skills to create their own meaningful and productive pathways to become increasingly career and/or college ready.

But students aren't in this alone. Along with their parent/guardian, below are a few resources to support students with their decision making.

School Counselors
Our high school counselors provide career and post-secondary counseling to students on their caseloads. Counselors can deliver this service through individual meetings, small groups, classroom guidance lessons, and through career & college nights at the school. Please keep in mind that counselors have large caseloads.

YouthPower365 – PWRON Career & College
YouthPower365 and their PWRON Career & College offerings provide valuable supports to furthering the education and career readiness of community youth. Their annual Camp College + Career event provides resources and support to rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors in preparation for college and beyond.

Western Slope College and Career Outreach
The Western Slope College and Career Outreach organization is an excellent resource for students, parents, and educators. It was created to provide access to and education of post-secondary options in the Colorado Western Slope area and beyond. They host a College Fair in October that draws students, families, high school counselors, and college admissions officers from around the country to Aspen High School.

Students with Disabilities
Students with learning disabilities are encouraged to follow their interests in pursuit of the futures they envision for themselves. There are some colleges that go above and beyond the minimum threshold for academic assistance and accommodations and provide specialized support programs for young adults who have the potential to succeed academically. Use this website to find Colleges Supporting Students with Learning Disabilities.
