Mill Levy Override Ballot Question

Eagle County School District is currently evaluating a potential Mill Levy Override (MLO) this November.
Communities across our region have made local investments in their schools — and it shows. As the graph below illustrates, an MLO would allow Eagle County to invest in our schools and teachers at a level closer to our neighboring mountain communities — keeping us competitive for the great educators our students deserve.
What is a Mill Levy OverRide?
- A voter-approved mechanism to fund local schools.
- It is used for ongoing expenses, such as teacher and staff salaries, programming and emotional and mental well being.
- Local funds that stay in our community and, more importantly, in our schools.
How an mlo Works.
When you approve an MLO, a small amount is added to your property tax bill each year. That money goes directly to Eagle County School District, not to the state, and it can only be spent on the district's day to day needs, like paying teachers and staff, funding classroom programs, and supporting student mental health.
Every dollar raised through an MLO stays in Eagle County. It cannot be taken by the state or redirected to another district, and it cannot be used to pay off debt or fund construction projects. It simply helps the district keep pace with the everyday cost of running great schools.
How much would it cost me?
- For the average home valued at $1,000,000, the cost will be about $133/year — roughly $11/month. A modest investment that keeps great teachers in our classrooms and strengthens every school in our district.

State funding alone can't keep pace with what our schools need to thrive. ECSD is exploring a Mill Levy Override (MLO) — a locally-controlled property tax measure that, if approved by voters, would generate $10.1 million a year to invest directly in our classrooms and our community.
