Equitable trade for schools

State Senator Owen Hill, a Colorado Springs Republican and chair of the Senate Education Committee, served up an expected pledge in December to bring back a bill that would require equalized funding for charter schools for this upcoming legislative session.

If it were to pass, then it would mean that all charter schools would receive the same per pupil funding as the district-run schools in their community.

Explore your options

Many are emerging from the haze of holiday bliss, but the new year is coming up on us quickly and that means Kindergarten Registration for Eagle County Schools. The registration process is completed online (as it has been for the past few years) and the system will be available from Jan. 3 through Feb. 17.

Our district offers several school choice options for families wishing to enroll their students in a school other than their community option. This process is called Open Enrollment and it operates during the same time frame as Kindergarten Registration.

Happy holidays to you

The holidays are upon us and families are gathering, both near and far, to be with the ones they love. One reason we treasure the holidays is that it reminds us of our childhoods, and the wonder and excitement that comes with this time of year.

Being the father of a 4-year-old girl and 3-year-old boy, my children are in the prime of the holiday spirit. Their new sense of wonder and amazement at the colored lights, the pageantry, and the anticipation (of course!) of this season serves as a constant reminder to me of the many gifts we have, which we too often take for granted.
