Fire in our community affects two families.

Two families in our school community lost everything in a recent fire in Dotsero. The Red Cross is helping them out, but they will need a lot of support.  Donations can be made at Gypsum Creek Middle School.  All donations can be brought to GCMS front office where we will ensure the families receive them as soon as possible. PLEASE help our students and community members through this very difficult time.

Late Start Communication from Eagle County Schools:

April 5, 2013

Dear Parents, Staff and Community:

For the upcoming 2013-14 school year, we will be expanding our late start program at high schools to include middle schools as well.

Late start happens one day of the week to allow teachers to collaborate with one another to build stronger and more consistent lesson plans. We will select the day of the week later, but it will be the same day across the district, which also enables collaboration among schools.

On the selected day, bus transportation for middle and high school students will match the late start schedule. For routes with elementary overlap, buses will run at the normal time for elementary students, then make a second route for the late start students.

The late start program at the high schools has worked very well and we have the same expectation for the middle schools.

We will be discussing this expansion of late start at the next Board Meeting on April 10 if you would like to attend. Many of you are already aware of the program through your PTA, but if you have particular concerns with the late start extending to middle school, please share them with us as soon as possible so they can be considered during our discussion and implementation planning.
