Culturally and Linguistically Diverse

Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Students

The district has formed the Referral Team for the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (RT-CLD). The purpose of this team is two-fold. The first purpose is to provide teachers with strategies that are culturally and linguistically appropriate to meet the needs of our diverse learners as they proceed through the problem-solving Response to Intervention process. The team can be contacted for assistance with strategies at any time during the problem-solving process. The second purpose of RT-CLD is to ensure the appropriate referral of culturally and/or linguistically diverse students for special education evaluation. Colorado Department of Education states that a specific learning disability may not be due to limited English proficiency. RT-CLD exists to help building-level RtI teams ensure that every effort has been made to determine that any learning or behavior issues that persist after the RtI process are not the product of a language or cultural difference, but instead the result of a learning or behavior difference. To be compliant with our students' educational rights, students who are defined as culturally and/or linguistically diverse must be brought to RT-CLD before referral for special education evaluation.

If parents have questions, please contact your school's problem-solving team, and all referrals will go through the local school first, then to RT-CLD for review.
